Points of Interest In Cozumel

Cozumel is a small island but there is so much to do that you can easily spend a full week on the island and never find yourself bored. Sure, life on the island is slow and laid-back, but there are plenty of exciting tours and attractions available in Cozumel that will keep you quite busy. In addition to the Cozumel dolphin programs available on our website, check out some of these other points of interest in Cozumel.

Chankanaab National Park:

Chankanaab National Park is the heart of Cozumel. It is also where the Cozumel dolphin facilities are located. Any guest who has a reservation for one of the several dolphin programs also has free entrance to the Chankanaab National Park. While the dolphin programs are probably the park's main attraction, it also offers guests a variety of other activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, and hiking. The park has a beautiful and vibrant tropical natural botanical garden with a trail leading out to one of the park's beaches. The beaches of the park have year-round clear waters that are great for swimming and snorkeling. You will also find reproductions of Mayan villages throughout the park that feature Mayan stone carvings.

San Gervasio:

San Gervasio is Cozumel's largest and most popular Mayan ruins site. It is located towards the center of the island, just a few miles from Cozumel's downtown. The site was once the sacred sanctuary for the Mayan fertility goddess Ixchel. It was also the capital and most important ceremonial center in Cozumel. Today, many classic-style and postclassic-style Mayan buildings and temples remain. The site is completely surrounded by forest and several tours are available from Downtown Cozumel to the Mayan ruins site.

San Miguel de Cozumel:

San Miguel is Cozumel's only town and also its Downtown. This is where you will find the hub of small-town Mexican culture as well as the bars, nightclubs, and world-class dining. Most people who visit Cozumel start off in San Miguel. This is where most of the hotels are located and also where the cruise ships dock. The city has a great boardwalk (“malecon" in Spanish) along the sea. You will find plenty of great shops in San Miguel (many right along the "malecon" boardwalk) including unique specialty boutique shops. The tourist area is located closer to the cruise ships dock. But if you do a little bit of research, you can find some restaurant and shopping gems outside of the main tourist area.
